The project to equip 405 school buildings in Cyprus with Photovoltaic Systems has been successfully concluded, boasting a total investment of €6.6 million.
In a press conference held in Nicosia to mark the completion of the initiative, Minister of Education, Sports, and Youth Dr Athena Michaelidou, along with Despina Panayiotou Theodosiou, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC), revealed that the project led to substantial energy savings for schools, resulting in a 30% reduction in overall energy consumption.
The comprehensive effort included the installation of PV systems with a combined capacity of 4.9 MW, thermal insulation covering around 84,000 square meters, and waterproofing for the PV system locations.
The successful collaboration between the EAC and the Ministry of Education aligns with the 2030 National Strategic Planning for Education and Sustainable Development, contributing to a more energy-efficient and sustainable future for the country’s public schools.
